'Best gig of 2012? Kreator destroying Bangalore!" Nolan Lewis of Kryptos takes us for a spin around his 2012.

The Indian retro metallers share a few thoughts on the year gone by...

Hello Nolan, we haven't had an representatives from the World of Indian metal involved in 'My 2012' so it's a special welcome to you! As usual our first question is - What was the best new album you heard in 2012? "There were a lot of great releases in 2012 but I’ll have to go for AcceptStalingrad. It still hasn’t left my stereo since the day it came out.

You aren't the first person to pick that album! And what about old stuff – did any reissues grab your attention this year? "Yeah, the Fifth Angel self titled reissue was great. I was waiting for that one for a long time."

Blimey. There's a name you don't hear that much any more! What was your non-musical highlight of the last twelve months? "No real highlights since all our politicians are still alive......unfortunately."

Haha yes. Taling about dying - which you were, in a roundabout way - do you think the music scene – and our sort of music in particular – is in good shape at the minute? "It’s not in as bad shape as some people think. There have been some incredible releases and bands coming out from many places that aren’t really known for their metal scenes. I guess the scene could be a lot better if more people supported the bands they like by buying their albums but this is the way it is right now so we just have to adapt. Heavy metal will continue to endure anyway regardless of the shape of the scene. (Wait that sounded like a Manowar song haha)

No need to apologise. Did anything disappoint you musically in 2012? "I was quite disappointed with CandlemassPsalms for the Dead. I was expecting a lot more considering it was to be their last release but it turned out to be pretty bland."

It just ended up outside Metal as Fuck's top 100 albums of the year list, so I guess a few people agree with you! Which practitioners of your own musical role impressed you most this year? "I guess Steelwing bears some similarities to us so yeah it has to be them. Zone of Alienation totally ripped. Special mention to Kreator’s Phantom Antichrist as well."

Ah yes. Herr Petrozza certainly raised the ol' flag of hate this year...Best live act you’ve seen this year? "Kreator live at Bangalore Open Air 2012. They absolutely destroyed the place."

So that's 2012 taken care of.  What does the next twelve months hold in prospect for you? "We’re planning to come back to Europe to play as many festivals as we can and distribute Indian porn everywhere (laughs).

An entirely laudable aim.  Which band, if any, do you think is primed to break out into the wider consciousness in 2013? "I’m hoping Enforcer, Cauldron or In Solitude will get more recognition. We need more retro!"

You'll not hear any dissent from us on that one! Now, the booze-related question: We’re fast approaching the festive season - best night for a party – Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve? "Definitely Christmas Eve. We usually get pissed drunk and don’t have to go to work for a couple of days (yes even in India). New Year’s Eve is a little depressing because after it’s over you’re like ‘’Ah fuck! Another year of the same old shit’’"

So, so true. It's been great talking to you Nolan - anything else you like the readers of Metal as Fuck to know?
