Verminous- Curse of the Antichrist (Blood Harvest)

A quick shot of death metal fury...
Release Date:
9 Aug 2013 (All day)

Verminous are a Swedish death metal band that formed over 10 years ago, in 2002, yet only have two full length releases to their name; 2003's Impious Sacrilege and The Unholy Communion, released earlier this year, which I highly recommend you check out. Curse of the Antichrist is a limited 7" EP that was no doubt concieved as a quick boot up the arse to remind people that Verminous are back in business.

The brand of death metal that Verminous play is the raw, filthy, crusty poo kind (think Autopsy with a bit of a Swede twist to taste) and has just enough murk in the production to keep old school death fanatics satisfied, while still being listenable.

The 7" itself contains three songs, an eponymous title track and two covers. The title track is probably the strongest on the release and is a nasty little piece of work that tears and pummels the listener with it's Entombed meets Autopsy fury. Next track Hang the Pope, originally by Neclear Assult, manages to accurately capture the spastic crossover mayhem of the original, with the cover of Nihilist's Revel in Flesh seamlessly blends in with the bands style of primitive death metal.

For all you old school death metal and vinyl fetishists out there, this would make a fine addition to your collection.
