Misery Index - Traitors (Relapse/Riot)

Misery Index bring us, with their latest release, a crushing death/grind tour de force.

Misery Index bring us, with their latest release, a crushing death/grind tour de force. From the moment it launches itself into existence, to the moment it terminates, you are subjected to a total onslaught of unforgiving brutality.

There is so much I like about this album that it's difficult to know where to start. It is blastingly, brutally, ear-bleedingly energy filled. Some of the tracks, like Theocracy, have such a driving sense of movement that you can't help but be swept along with it. There are some nice grooves, some well-thought-out and very pleasing melodies playing along through the undertones; there is some great skinsmanship that is just fucking blasting. There are also some great melodic hooks here that only a metalhead can appreciate because of its depth: nobody else could really understand this shit. That's one of the reasons why we all love it so much - you've gotta be able to hear everything that's going on, and when you can't, you never go back.

There is also an inherent and undeniable catchiness throughout this release, and yes, even a chorus or two that you just instinctively start growling out along with it. It's the sort of metal that buries itself in your belly and eats you alive. And I, for one, am not complaining.

Lest I fill this review with utter cheese, and still not get to where I'm trying to be with it, I think I might just end it with this: fucking well go out and buy this release. It's killer.
