Hardcore Superstar – Beg For It (Nuclear Blast/Riot)

With a bottle of Virgin Bourbon in one hand and a hooker in the other, these sleazy metal glam rock bums have pumped out another album of hook laden, air guitar-playing party tunes.

Hardcore Superstar claim they marry thrash with glam and, although they certainly can play hard, it’s still glam sleaze by any other name.  LA Guns, Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Buckcherry and very predominantly Helloween – all these names popped into my head when I first threw this on the stereo.

Beg For It starts off though with a completely different style - their tribute to Ennio Morricone This Worm’s For Ennio which has the whole spaghetti western vibe nailed perfectly before title track. Beg For It hits you with that Helloween vibe, and a chorus that you’ll pick up on straight away.  In fact, the whole damn album is contagious.

Nervous Breakdown, Spit It Out, Don’t Care ‘bout Your Bad Behaviour -  like Swine Flu you only need a moment’s exposure and you’ll find yourself pumping your fist in the air, flailing leads out on your air guitar, and being quarantined by the rest of the family.  And possibly the neighbours.

This is a band who are comfortable with what they do, and they do it well.  The songs are just good, unclean, party animal fun; the production is great; you can hear every damn word, and the guitars sizzle with old school charm. What more could you want?

Beg For It is one hell of a party album, and you’ll find yourself digging through your records afterwards, dusting off those old 80s cock rock albums and continuing the party.

Hardcore Superstar's Beg For It is out now on Nuclear Blast/Riot.
